Bas Lenoire

Bas Lenoire has made more than 120 wine journeys around the world and visited over 700 wineries. Over the years, he developed a distinct and refined vision of taste, style, and terroir. In 2016, he opened his own Italian restaurant. Eight years later, it was named the best Italian restaurant in the Netherlands. In 2020, Bas purchased a plot of land on the Rasberg in South Limburg, where he began creating his own 4-hectare vineyard: Wijngoed Lenoire. After years of experimenting, developing, and investing in terroir and quality, he sold his restaurant in 2025 to focus entirely on the estate. Lenoire is the result of all those journeys, encounters, and years of knowledge.

Grape Varieties & Wines

At Wijngoed Lenoire, we cultivate five noble grape varieties: Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and 400 carefully planted vines of Sauvignon Blanc. From this refined selection, we craft four exclusive Lenoire wines—each with its own distinct character, yet all defined by the same precision, elegance, and signature style.

Landscape, Climate & Terroir

We cultivate four hectares of vineyard on an exceptional site overlooking the Meuse Valley, stretching from Kanne to Genk, with Maastricht prominently in view. Our southwest-facing slope creates a unique microclimate in which the grapes ripen optimally. As rainfall is often accompanied by winds from the southwest, the leaves and grapes dry quickly after precipitation, significantly reducing disease pressure. During the Cretaceous period, marl—a soft limestone composed of around 90% calcium—was formed here. This soil is ideally suited for viticulture: the limestone provides tension and minerality, while the gravel from ancient Meuse deposits ensures excellent water management.

Winemaking Process

Each wine at Lenoire is crafted through a tailored production process. Our exclusive sparkling wine, made according to the Traditional Method, is based primarily on Chardonnay. The Pinot Gris Levendig undergoes extended skin contact before maturing in large wooden casks, fine ceramics, and various amphorae. The Chardonnay Liefdevol is aged in traditional 228-liter Burgundy barriques. Finally, the Cuvée Daadkrachtig is produced only in the finest vintages—a late harvest of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc, picked as a field blend and matured in tonneaux and large 15-hectoliter wooden casks.

Bees

Bees are an essential presence in our vineyard. They are naturally drawn to the scent of the grape buds and gently nibble away the caps of the flowers, encouraging the vines to bloom more quickly. Importantly, the grapes themselves are not damaged by the bees. Each hive contains around 50,000 worker bees during the summer, and we maintain a total of eight hives on the estate.

Shropshire Sheep

The Shropshire is an English sheep breed that does not nibble on tree bark, making it ideal for use in the vineyard. With its distinctive black head and legs and its fine, cream-colored wool, it is also a pleasure to see. Each winter, a sizeable flock resides in our vineyard. They graze the land clean, provide natural fertilization, and contribute to overall biodiversity.

Kitchen Garden

The kitchen garden at Lenoire forms the green heart of our estate. Here, more than 90 different herbs, plants, and edible flowers are grown with care and attention, in harmony with the rhythm of the seasons. Our Rasberg chickens roam freely among the greenery and provide us with fresh eggs every day—pure, honest, and straight from our own land.
